Martha Hopkins started cooking at age five, when she made cheese toast every morning by the lamp of her Easy-Bake Oven. She went on to be written-up for her legendary high-school dinner parties by her local paper, Memphis’ Commercial Appeal. After graduating from college with degrees in writing and French, Martha worked for The Wimmer Companies, best known as the community cookbook publisher for Junior Leagues and non-profits across the country.
Randall Lockridge grew up in Houston, Texas, and didn’t learn to cook until he met Martha at college at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. They lived next door to each other at Terrace Gardens for much of that time, and then formed the appropriately named Terrace Partners, a publishing and design firm based Texas.
They put Terrace on the map in 1997 with InterCourses: an aphrodisiac cookbook, which they wrote, designed, and published together. InterCourses has sold more than 240,000 copies in the United States and Canada, as well as foreign rights to the United Kingdom, Australia, and Germany. Since its release, Martha and Randall have been interviewed by such media outlets as Good Morning America, CNN, Discovery Channel Canada, Bloomberg, and the TV Food Network. They have received print coverage from the likes of Publishers Weekly, People, Cosmopolitan, Psychology Today, Glamour, New Woman, Playboy, Self, and Fit, as well as the New York Times, Miami Herald, and Chicago Sun Times, to name a few. InterCourses also has received substantial Internet coverage on such popular sites as Salon and the Knot.
Since the original InterCourses’ release, Hopkins and Lockridge have worked on a wide variety of cookbooks, including New Tastes from Texas, a companion book to Stephan Pyles’ PBS series; Let’s Grill and Meat for Omaha Steaks and Clarkson Potter New York, and the international bestseller, Low-Carb Meals in Minutes, and More Low Carb Meals in Minutes by James Beard award winner, Linda Gassenheimer. Martha and Randall recently published Do It for Less! Parties (www.diflparties.com), a quantity cookbook with recipes for 12, 25, 50, and 75 guests by celebrity caterer and food stylist Denise Vivaldo.
They released the completely updated and revised, 10th anniversary edition of The New InterCourses in February 2007. With 65 brand-new recipes home-tested by 51 couples, 3 new images, 2 new chapters, and an updated and redesigned appendix, The New InterCourses is just like the original—only more and better.
Though partial to her Southern hometown of Memphis, Martha enjoys life as a Texan in the small city of Waco, located midway between Dallas, Fort Worth, and Austin. She lives there with her longterm partner, Jeff, and their very fat cat named Little Kitty.
Randall found love with the rosemary girl, whom he married in 2005. Martha’s father, a Southern Baptist minister, performed the ceremony. Randall and his wife live in Corpus Christi with a Blue Heeler named Maximillion. Martha and Randall maintain Terrace Publishing and their long-distance business partnership in book packaging and advertising with help from the internet, telephone, and FedEx.
Martha and Randall are currently working with America’s favorite Bachelorette, Meredith Phillips, on The Date Night Cookbook, due for release in February 2008.
